Supplies

  • The butterfly template printed at 100% or Actual Size
  • Black cardstock or lightweight cardboard
  • Clear self-adhesive contact paper
  • Colored cellophane cut into 1½- to 2-inch pieces
  • Dot stickers or washable markers
  • Painter’s tape for the window

Four easy steps

  1. An adult cuts around the butterfly, removes the four wing windows, and cuts two pieces of contact paper slightly larger than the butterfly.
  2. Place the butterfly frame on one piece of contact paper with the sticky side facing up.
  3. Let the child fill the open wings with cellophane and decorate the butterfly body.
  4. Cover with the second piece of contact paper. An adult trims the edges, then tapes the butterfly to a sunny window.
